National Forest Week
National Forest Week
Spanning 193 million acres, America’s national forests and grasslands are incredibly diverse. Whether you love hikes among the redwoods, catching desert sunsets, or picnicking along the river, there’s a national forest to explore.
The National Forest Foundation (NFF) celebrates these public lands and their preservation each July during National Forest Week. Celebrate with us as we share some of our favorite ways to support and explore the forests!
Find a forest
With so many famous national parks, it’s easy to forget that national forests cover millions of acres. If you haven’t visited a national forest, you likely live near one. Seven in ten Americans live within a two-hour drive of a national forest. These forests are free to the public and a great way to get outside without the crowds that usually fill the more famous national parks. You can easily find a forest near you and plan your next trip.
If you already planned a national park trip for the summer, stop by a forest along the way. National forests surround many national parks, and you can camp just about anywhere in the forest.
Share your photos
Another great way to celebrate the national forests is by snapping and sharing some photos of your adventures. You can “find your AWEsome” (this year’s theme) during National Forest Week by entering the photo and video contest. NFF and the contest sponsors are giving incredible prizes for candid pictures and videos of the places that inspire you in your local national forest. Winners from the five categories will be announced in August.
Buy products that give back
National forests are great for recreation and an irreplaceable natural resource. They provide invaluable resources like lumber, grazing land, and wildlife habitats. They also play a crucial role in keeping our air clean and clean water available to millions of Americans.
You can support the national forests by buying products that give back. Our limited edition collaborative tees and posters directly support the NFF and their work to maintain the forests.
Time to get outside and enjoy the “AWE-inspiring” national forests! Whether it’s National Forest week or a quiet weekend at the end of the summer, we hope you celebrate the incredible expanse of wild places that make up the national forests!
