The story of Smokey Bear begins when wildfire fighters in New Mexico found a badly burned cub clinging to the remains of a charred tree. The operators bandaged his paws and flew him to Santa Fe where the story of his rescue spread quickly. The toll fire takes on wildlife resonated across the country, and the newly named "Smokey Bear" became the face of wildfire prevention.
This original illustration pays tribute to the origin story of Smokey Bear while reminding us that wildfire prevention is a problem that must be addressed by each new generation.
All Smokey Bear products created by The Landmark Project are licensed through the US Forest Service, and a portion of the proceeds go toward funding wildfire prevention education.
