Why We Give Back

“By donating a generous portion of our profits to educational materials, we help fund everything from educational books to Forest Service parades that raise awareness about fire hazards and prevention.”

Since our first Smokey Bear sketch five years ago, Landmark has loved partnering with the US Forest Service and donating to their wildfire education campaign. By donating 10% of each Smokey Bear purchase to the Forest Service, we’ve raised nearly $500,000 for Smokey Bear’s wildfire prevention education. Everyone who purchases our Smokey swag is a part of this effort so we want to share a little more about where Landmark’s donations go and how these efforts help protect our forests.

What all does Smokey do?

Many people think that Smokey Bear’s work starts and ends with a catchphrase and park safety signs. But Smokey’s fire safety education includes so much more.

Did you know Smokey Bear is the longest running ad campaign in US history? Smokey Bear has been in dozens of commercials and cartoons. He also appears on postage stamps, billboards, and books. He’s the star of the annual Smokey Bear parade and visits schools and parks across the country.

The US Forest Service, National Association of State Foresters, and the Ad Council all work together to create educational materials and programs for people of all ages. Landmark partners with these organizations so that we too can be a part of Smokey’s wildfire education. By donating a generous portion of our profits to educational materials, we help fund everything from educational books to Forest Service parades that raise awareness about fire hazards and prevention.

How can I be a part of Smokey’s campaign?

Sporting Smokey on your apparel and gear may seem small, but it’s one of the best ways to support an 80-year-long campaign. Sadly, 85% of wildfires are started by humans and raising awareness about fire safety goes a long way toward preventing future outbreaks. And when your Smokey gear is from Landmark, your purchases equal more donations to educational materials so that even more people become aware of the impact they have on our forests. So from one Smokey fan to another, thanks for being the “you” in “Only you can prevent wildfires!”
